What is the Common European Framework of Languages?

Proud after achieving B1.1 level

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment, is a guideline used to describe achievements of learners of foreign languages across Europe and, increasingly, in other countries.

It is abbreviated in English as CEFR or CEF or CEFRL (compared to the German abbreviations GeR or GeRS, the French abbreviation CECR, the Italian QCER, or the Spanish MCER).

There are 6 different levels within the CEFR, ranging from A1 to C2:

A1 (beginner)

A2 (elementary)

B1 (intermediate)

B2 (upper intermediate)

C1 (advanced)

C2 (proficiency)
